After a break from acting of seven years, the 54 year old star is back with an action movie based on a six-chapter BBC series with the same name filmed in the eighties which reflected a time of both national and international tension for the United Kingdom due to the Cold War.
“You know, I was a fan of the series when it came out in the eighties, you know. It's one of those few things that I'd actually turn on the television and watch. Television can be boring but this wasn't. It was a very good television drama, you know. And I remember it well, I remember being affected by it. And I was very pleased that the adaptation by Andrew Bovell and Bill Monahan brought it to another place, you know," Reuters quoted Gibson as saying while he intensively was drawing on a sheet of paper, what he did all over the news conference while he was asked different questions to end up showing a funny character with long beard and hair.
The original "Edge of Darkness" connected with the audience's worries and fears and became a hit, and was awarded with several BAFTAs, one to best drama series among them, the agency added.
The movie tells the story of Thomas Craven (Mel Gibson), who is a homicide detective from Boston whose 24 year old daughter Emma (Bojada Novakovic) is killed in front of him. He quickly realizes it isn't a mistake - as all his colleagues think - and puts all his energy in trying to find out why she was killed. His investigation leads to a dangerous and tricky world of corporative hush ups, government connivance and murder.
